Services Offered

Anxiety Therapy

Anxiety is one of the most common reasons people seek psychological support — and one of the most treatable. Whether you are dealing with generalised worry that never quite switches off, panic attacks that arrive without warning, social anxiety that limits your world, specific phobias, or the kind of persistent dread that is hard to name, I can help.
Anxiety is not a character flaw or a sign of weakness. It is your nervous system doing its job — sometimes too well. Therapy helps you understand what is driving your anxiety, develop practical tools to manage it, and gradually reclaim the parts of your life it has been taking from you.
I draw on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), EMDR, and clinical hypnosis to address anxiety at multiple levels — the thoughts, the physical sensations, and the deeper patterns that keep it in place.

Trauma & Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Trauma changes the way we see ourselves, other people, and the world. It does not always look the way we expect it to. Sometimes it is a single overwhelming event. Sometimes it is the accumulation of smaller experiences over years. Sometimes it is something that happened so long ago that you have stopped connecting it to how you feel today.
I work with adults who have experienced a wide range of traumatic events — including accidents, assault, childhood adversity, medical trauma, workplace incidents, and complex relational trauma. My approach is trauma-informed at every stage, which means your safety and sense of control are always the priority.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is one of the most extensively researched treatments for PTSD in the world, endorsed by the World Health Organization and the Australian Psychological Society. As an accredited EMDR practitioner, I use this approach to help clients process traumatic memories in a way that reduces their emotional charge — without requiring you to relive the details in a way that feels re-traumatising.

Depression & Mood Disorders

Depression is more than sadness. It is the weight that makes ordinary things feel impossible. It is the loss of interest in things that used to matter. It is the voice that says you are not worth helping, and the exhaustion that makes it hard to argue back.
If any of that sounds familiar, I want you to know: you are not broken, and you are not alone. Depression is a clinical condition with well-established, effective treatments — and reaching out is the first and most important step.
I work with adults experiencing depression across a broad spectrum, from mild and situational low mood to more persistent and severe presentations. Treatment is collaborative and evidence-based, drawing on CBT, behavioural activation, mindfulness-based approaches, and where appropriate, clinical hypnosis to address the deeper patterns that maintain low mood.

Grief & Loss

Grief does not follow a schedule, and it does not always look the way other people expect it to. The loss of a loved one, the end of a relationship, a diagnosis, a career, a version of yourself — all of these can bring a grief that is real and deserving of care.
I offer a space where grief can be held without being rushed, minimised, or pathologised. My approach acknowledges that loss is not a problem to be solved, but an experience to be accompanied — and that with the right support, people can find their way through it.

EMDR Therapy

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a structured, evidence-based psychotherapy that helps people process distressing memories and experiences that have become “stuck” in the nervous system. Originally developed for the treatment of PTSD, EMDR is now widely used for anxiety, phobias, depression, grief, low self-esteem, and a range of other presentations.
EMDR works by engaging the brain’s natural information processing system through bilateral stimulation — typically guided eye movements — while you briefly focus on a distressing memory or belief. Over the course of treatment, the emotional intensity associated with that memory reduces, and more adaptive beliefs begin to take hold.
As a Level-1 EMDR practitioner, I have used this approach with adults across a wide range of presentations. Many clients find that EMDR produces meaningful change more quickly than traditional talk therapy alone — though the pace is always guided by what feels safe and manageable for you.
EMDR is endorsed by the World Health Organization (WHO), the Australian Psychological Society (APS), and the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) as an effective treatment for trauma and PTSD.

Clinical Hypnosis

Clinical hypnosis is not what you see on television. It is not about losing control, being made to do things against your will, or being “put under.” It is a focused, collaborative state of relaxed attention — one that many people find deeply calming and surprisingly effective.
Used as an adjunct to evidence-based psychological therapy, clinical hypnosis can support the treatment of anxiety, phobias, chronic pain, stress, sleep difficulties, and habits that have proven difficult to change through willpower alone. It works by engaging the subconscious mind — the part of us that holds our automatic responses, our deeply held beliefs, and our emotional patterns — in a way that conscious, analytical thinking sometimes cannot reach.
I hold formal accreditation in clinical hypnosis through the College of Medical Hypnosis, and I have been a Board Member of the Australian Society of Clinical Hypnotherapists and a Journal Editor for the Australian Journal of Clinical Hypnotherapy and Hypnosis. This is not a peripheral interest — it is a discipline I have studied, practised, and contributed to at a professional level.

Men’s Mental Health

Men are less likely to seek psychological support than women — not because they struggle less, but because the barriers are often higher. The expectation to manage independently, the discomfort with vulnerability, the sense that asking for help is somehow a failure: these are real, and I understand them.
I have a particular interest in working with men who are navigating stress, burnout, relationship difficulties, anger, grief, identity, or the kind of quiet suffering that does not always have a name. My approach is direct, practical, and free of judgement. You do not need to have the right words, or know exactly what is wrong. You just need to show up.

Stress, Burnout & Work-Related Issues

The line between productive pressure and damaging stress is not always obvious — until it is crossed. Burnout does not announce itself. It builds quietly, through years of giving more than you receive, of pushing through when you should have stopped, of defining your worth by your output.
I work with professionals, executives, and individuals across all walks of life who are experiencing the effects of chronic stress, occupational burnout, workplace conflict, or the particular pressures that come with leadership and high-performance environments. My background includes extensive work in organisational and corporate settings, which means I understand the context you are operating in — not just the symptoms you are presenting with.

Anger Management & Conflict Resolution

Anger is not inherently a problem. It is a signal — one that often points to something important about our values, our boundaries, or our unmet needs. The problem arises when anger becomes the default response, or when the way it is expressed causes harm to ourselves or the people around us.
I work with adults who want to develop a more nuanced and constructive relationship with anger — understanding where it comes from, what it is trying to communicate, and how to respond to it in ways that are effective rather than destructive.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

OCD is widely misunderstood — often reduced to a quirk about tidiness, when in reality it can be a profoundly distressing and disabling condition. It involves intrusive, unwanted thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviours or mental acts (compulsions) that are performed to reduce the anxiety those thoughts produce.
I work with adults experiencing OCD using evidence-based approaches, including Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and CBT, tailored to the specific themes and patterns that are most relevant to each individual.

Life Transitions & Adjustment

Change — even positive change — can be destabilising. Relationship transitions, career shifts, relocation, retirement, parenthood, loss of identity, and the gradual accumulation of life’s demands can all bring a sense of disorientation that is hard to articulate but very real to live with.
I work with adults who are navigating significant transitions and who want support in making sense of where they are, clarifying what they want, and finding a way forward that feels genuinely theirs.

Psychological Assessments

I offer a range of psychological assessments for adults, including:
Intellectual and Cognitive Assessments — evaluating cognitive functioning, memory, attention, and processing speed, often relevant for academic accommodations, vocational planning, or diagnostic clarity.
Personality Assessments — providing structured insight into personality traits, interpersonal patterns, and psychological functioning.
Psychopathology Assessments — formal diagnostic assessment for a range of mental health conditions, providing clarity and a foundation for targeted treatment planning.
All assessments include a comprehensive written report and a feedback session to discuss findings and recommendations in plain language.

Clinical Supervision

I offer individual clinical supervision for provisional psychologists, registered psychologists, and allied health professionals seeking to develop their clinical skills and reflective practice.
With over 18 years of clinical experience across private practice, public health, government, and organisational settings — and a current academic appointment as a Lecturer and Program Coordinator at Torrens University Australia — I bring both breadth and depth to the supervisory relationship.
Supervision is available in person and via telehealth. The current supervision fee is $200 per session.

Executive Coaching

Drawing on my background in organisational psychology, leadership, and clinical practice, I offer executive coaching for professionals and leaders who want to perform at their best while maintaining their wellbeing.
This is not therapy repackaged as coaching. It is a structured, goal-focused engagement that draws on psychological principles to support clarity of thinking, decision-making, interpersonal effectiveness, and sustainable high performance.

Yes. I offer telehealth consultations via online video and phone for clients across Australia. Telehealth sessions are conducted through a secure platform and are available to both new and existing clients.
What is EMDR and how does it work?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy that helps people process distressing memories and experiences. It uses bilateral stimulation — typically guided eye movements — to help the brain reprocess traumatic material so it no longer causes significant distress. EMDR is endorsed by the World Health Organization and the Australian Psychological Society for the treatment of PTSD and trauma.
Do I need a referral to see Dr Alex?

You do not need a referral to book an appointment. However, if you wish to access Medicare rebates, you will need a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP or psychiatrist. Please visit the for more information.
Do you work with children or adolescents?

My practice is focused on working with adults. If you are seeking support for a child or adolescent, I am happy to provide a referral to an appropriate specialist.
How long does therapy take?

The length of therapy varies depending on the individual, the nature of the presenting concern, and the goals we set together. Some people find significant benefit in a focused course of 6–12 sessions. Others benefit from longer-term support.
